Surface Preparation
Surface areas should be clean and sound, free of voids, sharp protrusions or contaminants. The surfaces shall have a relative fine float finish as the surface texture if coarse will influence the finish of the duraflex® applied.
The duraflex® may be applied to a damp surface but not into free water.
See all relative data sheets for details.
Specification
For general waterproofing of flat surfaces i.e. walls and floors of non-water retaining structures apply duraflex® at a rate of 4 kg/m2 in two coats i.e. 2 kgs/m2 per coat. This product after the brush application renders a reasonably smooth surface but if a polished surface is required then after the brush application a steel float may be used to obtain the appropriate finish.
The ecofelt detail is recommended for all applications where corners are involved and over static cracks no larger than 1 mm, cracks larger than 1 mm or that are dynamic must be addressed separately.
All corners between floor and wall an ecofelt membrane thoroughly saturated with duraflex® must be included, 100 mm horizontal and 100 mm up the vertical face.
When incorporating the ecofelt the first layer of duraflex® must be applied over the entire surface followed by embedding the saturated ecofelt firmly into the first wet coat of duraflex® and dressing it into the corners, the second coat application of duraflex® to follow over the entire surface.
duraflex® may be applied over the plaster work or underneath depending on details of the system. The duraflex® in which ever case must be applied to relatively smooth and sound surface. No curing is required.
The surfaces may now receive a wearing surface such as tiles etc. Suitable expansion joint details are to be allowed for in the tiling application.
Substrate expansion and construction joints are to be dealt with separately.
