Uses
- abe® waterproofing slurry is formulated to be an economical waterproofing coating which will render a permanent waterproof skin onto concrete, plaster and brick surfaces.
- It can be applied onto new and existing structures on either the interior or exterior side of the structure to obtain optimum waterproof properties.
abe® waterproofing slurry can be used to waterproof:
- below ground basements.
- foundations.
- supporting walls.
- ponds.
- treats penetrating damp.
Advantages
- Easy-to-use, just add water.
- Economical, no primer required.
Surface Preparation
All surfaces to be waterproofed with abe® waterproofing slurry must be clean and sound. The surface must be free of laitance, shutter release oil, dust and loose particles and any other foreign matter including fungal growth. Highly porous surfaces such as common bricks should be plaster rendered before waterproofing.
Large cracks and honeycomb should be given a thin coating of abe® waterproofing slurry, mixed as described in this data sheet. They should then be fi lled with a 3:1 – 4:1 sand/cement mortar prior to applying the overall abe® waterproofing slurry coating.
Bonding / Priming
No priming is required.
Mixing
abe® waterproofing slurry only needs the addition of water to be ready for use. Gauge abe® waterproofing slurry with water to produce a viscous creamy consistency i.e. 1 volume of clean water to 2.25 – 3 volumes of abe® waterproofing slurry by volume or 2.1 L per 5 kg i.e. 1 cup of clean water to 2.25 – 3 cups of abe® waterproofing slurry.
Mixing may be done by hand or mechanical mixer and should be continued until a consistent, lump-free product is obtained. In manual mixing, lumps may be broken down with a gloved hand. On completion of mixing, material must be used within 30 minutes. Never attempt to add additional water i.e. further dilute the mix by adding additional water to the mix if the mixed material becomes too stiff to apply.
Coverage
Coverage will be approx. 2 – 3 kg/m2 using two coats of abe® waterproofing slurry dependant on background conditions. It is important to use at least two coats of abe®waterproofing slurry to successfully achieve a watertight application.
Application
All surfaces to be treated with abe® waterproofing slurry must be fully saturated beforehand, preferably the day before.
Surfaces such as floors must be free of ponded water and verticals must be free of water running down the face.
Apply abe.® waterproofing slurry by hand using either a medium or hard block brush.
Treatment must be applied in two or three coats. A second coat must be applied as soon as the fi rst coat can no longer be disturbed by brushing. If a third coat is required it must follow within 24 hours, with the surface having again been predampened.
The final coat of the system must be applied by brush and left as smooth as possible.
TIP: always apply the second coat at a 90° angle to the fi rst coat. The third coat if required should be applied at a 90° angle to the second coat.
Cleaning of Equipment
Tools, brushes and mixing equipment should be cleaned immediately after use and before material has set with abe® super brush cleaner followed by washing with soap and water.
Protection / Maintenance on completion
If abe® waterproofing slurry is exposed to full sunlight during the curing stage, a periodic light spray mist with clean water will be required to aid the proper and full curing. abe® waterproofing slurry may be over-painted with a high quality PVA/acrylic paint if so required on full cure, or left exposed.
