Heavy duty plaster adhesive, mortar and screed enhancer

abebond® plastergrip is a blend of synthetic polymers and additives.

Designed specifically to enhance the bond of cement screeds or renderings and gypsum plaster skim coats to clean, sound surfaces of concrete, masonry, brickwork, and most other common building materials. Surfaces already painted with PVA or acrylic coatings can also be rendered using abebond® plastergrip as a bonding agent, provided that the existing coating is sound and firmly adherent. Improves tensile and flexural strengths of sand/cement mixes thus permitting thinner than usual layers.

Uses

Designed specifically to enhance the bond of cement screeds or renderings and gypsum plaster skim coats to clean, sound surfaces of concrete, masonry, brickwork, and most other common building materials. Surfaces already painted with PVA or acrylic coatings can also be rendered using abebond® plastergrip as a bonding agent, provided that the existing coating is sound and firmly adherent. Improves tensile and flexural strengths of sand/cement mixes thus permitting thinner than usual layers.

Advantages
  • Improves non-structural bond of cement screeds, renders and gypsum plasters
  • Bonds to sound PVA/acrylic surfaces
  • Good spread rate
  • Economical
  • Easy to apply
Surface Preparation

All surfaces should be clean, sound and free from contamination, laitance, loose particles. Spalling or flaking material must be removed by thorough wire brushing followed by the removal of debris by means of a soft brush. Suspect surfaces may be mechanically keyed down to virgin surfaces (randomly) , which will ensure good bonding.

Mixing

Stir well before use.

Coverage

10 – 15 m2/L dependent upon surface texture and porosity.

Typical Physical Properties
Toxicity Non-toxic
Appearance Milky white liquid
Density 1,02 g/cm3
Flash point Does not flash
Application
  • Horizontal surfaces – i.e., bonding new screeds to existing floors: Apply the  abebond® plastergrip to the prepared surface by means of a brush or roller and apply screed immediately onto the wet  abebond® plastergrip. Finished screeds must be cured in the normal manner
  • Vertical or overhead surfaces: for the rendering of walls, ceilings, columns and beams, the cleaned surface should be coated with  abebond® plastergrip and a scratch coat of plaster applied whilst the  abebond® plastergrip is still wet. As soon as the scratch coat is firmly set, the rendering may be built up to the required thickness with fresh plaster
  • Gypsum plaster skim coats: the gypsum plaster should be applied to the wet  abebond® plastergrip and finished off in a single operation
  • Integral mix i.e. screed flexibiliser: substitute approximately 25% of gauging water with  abebond® plastergrip
Crack Repairs

Mix one part of  abebond® plastergrip with one part of fresh OPC and trowel into the pre-cleaned cracks. The consistency of the slurry may be adjusted by small extra additions of OPC or clean water, as required.

Cleaning

Tools, brushes and mixing equipment should be cleaned immediately after use and before material has set with abe® super brush cleaner followed by washing with soap and water.

Protection on Completion

The newly applied mortar/screed or plaster must be kept damp for at least five days to promote good curing.
