Water based clear polyurethane top coat
abecote® clear PUD top coat is a two component solvent free water borne polyurethane coating formulated to provide an ultra durable clear coating with a gloss or matt finish.
abecote® clear PUD top coat is uv resistant with good mechanical properties and good chemical resistance against water, alcohols, salt solution and petrol.
Uses:
abecote® clear PUD is essentially used as a top-coating for sealing/maintenance coat of PU and EP coatings. abecote® clear PUD offers a very good cleaning effect and resistance to car-tyre contamination (black heel marking – BHM).
Advantages
- Environmentally and user friendly (solvent free)
- Excellent mar resistance
- Matt finish which has the effect of de-accentuating surface imperfections due to poor finishing
- Easy cleaning – good stain resistance to coffee, shoe polish and mustard
- Long pot life

Surface Preparation
The substrate must be firm, dry, and free from dust and grease. If necessary, employ mechanical cleaning methods and equipment. It is advisable to check bonding on unfamiliar surfaces. Older coatings must be sanded.
Mixing
The components must be thoroughly mixed until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. To ensure good mixing, mechanical mixing equipment should be used (below 400 r.p.m) and avoid air incorporation (Jiffy type stirrer is ideal).
Application
After mixing, transfer the mixed material into a new container for application. For top coat sealing it is not necessary to dilute with water. Opened containers must be closed immediately to prevent evaporation and skin forming. It is advisable to use opened containers as quickly as is possible and completely.
abecote® clear PUD gloss is applied with a virgin mohair roller thinly and evenly.
Note:
- Don’t dilute with solvents.
- Pinholes can lead to a loss of adhesion, e.g. areas subjected to water ponding.
- Applications thicker than 145μm wft is not recommended.
- Localised higher thickness can change the transparency and produces small bubbles.
- Extended applications should be worked within 8-10 minutes at the latest, otherwise tracks may be visible.

Cleaning of Equipment
Use water immediately after use. For dried material, use abe® super brush cleaner before full cure is effected.
