a.b.e.® supplied specialised products for new flooring at the Kraft Foods SA wafer production plant in Port Elizabeth.
Cynthia Hoffman, a.b.e.® regional manager in the Eastern Cape, says the company’s abe.flo HPU ‘white sands’ three-component polyurethane self-levelling, chemical-resistant system was applied to 800 square metres of the Kraft Foods floor.
“abe.flo HPU provides a hard-wearing floor finish with exceptional chemical resistance. It is particularly suitable for food processing factories as it provides a seamless and hygienic finish without any crevices where dirt and bacteria can collect. It is also easy to clean and sterilise and generally requires low maintenance. abeflo has a low odour during installation – and this was major benefit during application at the food processing plant,” Hoffman states
She says a special challenge in this project was that the client required a non-slip floor surface. “A build-up of fine sugar dust on the floors had made it slippery and a safety hazard to employees working in the plant. a.b.e. consequently supplied our abecote PUD, a single-pack, water-based polyurethane clear coating – mixed with an alumina non-slip aggregate – to make the floor surface non-slippery.”
Additionally, a.b.e.®’s flexothane EPU was applied to the floor’s movement joints. flexothane EPU is a tough two-component, abrasion-resistant, epoxy-modified polyurethane joint sealant.
Coterite, a vastly experienced a.b.e.®-approved flooring applicator, handled the flooring project. “Coterite has been a leading flooring applicator in the Eastern Cape for over 30 years and has been extensively trained by a.b.e.®,” Hoffman adds.
Finally, abecote WD337, an a.b.e.® water-based epoxy was applied to factory walls.
