duracote decorative waterproofing is a polymer modified cementitious based aesthetically decorative or waterproofing coating for walls and floors in both domestic or commercial applications. The product mixes easily with water to provide a smooth paste consistency applied by brush or trowel for smooth or textured finishes all in one application. Offered in a wide range of colours.

Uses
duracote decorative waterproofing is ideal for waterproofing the positive surfaces of wet areas typically bathrooms, showers and kitchens. The product may also be applied in areas omitting plaster, paint and tiling work to obtain rustic finishes.

Brush Applied Decorative Finishes
duracote decorative waterproofing is applied in the same way as the waterproofing application, however for aesthetic finishes particular attention must be given to the surface preparation.
Adjoining surfaces where one side is painted the corresponding side also needs to be painted in the same colour and allowed to dry to avoid colour variations prior to applying the duracote decorative waterproofing.
Dry wall portioning joints require jointing tape and the entire surface to be painted with a suitable oil based primer.
Application of the duracote decorative waterproofing must be applied only when all renovations have been completed to prevent surface contamination or defects, cementitious type coatings cannot be touched up without visible effects.
The entire wall from edge to edge must be completed in one application and all detail work around windows and cornices etc. must be carried out as they are approached and not prior to the main application. A wet edge must always be maintained do not allow edges to dry out as this will leave visible marks at the intersections. Applicators are to apply the product from top down and bottom up or from left to right simultaneously.
In two coat applications the same colour is to be used note that the second application colour may appear in a lighter shade.
In areas like bathrooms, showers and kitchens the dry coating should be sealed with an appropriate clear sealer to prevent staining.
Surface preparation

Surface Preparation
Ensure that the existing coating has properly cured for at least 24 hours and is dry.
Remove all dust dirt and all foreign contamination.
Mixing
OVERCOATING OF AN EXISTING duracote decorative waterproofing APPLICATION WITH A DIFFERENT COLOUR
Add 5 litres of potable water to the mixing vessel followed by 50 ml of dura.®latex and stir thoroughly.
Whilst stirring slowly add 5 kg of the required colour of duracote decorative waterproofing and mix for at least 3 minutes until a homogenous, smooth, lump free consistency is obtained. Apply the coating immediately after mixing and continue mixing the product during the application to avoid settlement.
Application

Do not pre-wet the existing surface to be coated.
Apply the duracote decorative waterproofing mixture blended with dura.®latex to the dry, clean surface using a suitable brush, should a second coat be required employ the same process as above.
In areas like bathrooms, showers and kitchens the dry coating should be sealed with an appropriate clear sealer to prevent staining.
TROWEL OR SKIM COAT APPLICATIONS FOR WALLS FLOORS AND CLAY TILES
Tiles that have wide or deep grouting may require two applications where the second application is at least one week later.

TROWEL OR SKIM COAT APPLICATIONS FOR WALLS FLOORS AND CLAY TILES
Trowel or skim coat applications for walls floors and clay tiles

Mixing
Add 5.5 litres of potable water to the mixing vessel.
To reduce crazing and cracking substitute 1 litre of mixing water with 1 litre of dura.latex and stir thoroughly.
Whilst stirring slowly add 5 kg of the required colour of duracote decorative waterproofing and mix for at least 3 minutes until a homogenous, smooth, lump free consistency is obtained. Apply the coating immediately after mixing and continue mixing the product during the application to avoid settlement.
Application
Prime porous masonry surfaces with clean water to provide a damp surface without free water present.
For dense and smooth surfaces dilute dura.®latex with potable water in equal parts by volume, this is mixed with the duracote decorative waterproofing to form a viscous but easily brushed slurry consistency. The slurry is then brushed vigorously into the surface.
NB. While the priming slurry is still tacky apply the dura.®cote decorative waterproofing evenly over the surface using a wooden or steel float to a thickness between 3 and 5 mm. The full application must be completed without interruption to avoid noticeable overlaps, always maintain a wet edge during application.
Please note should the priming slurry dry before applying the duracote decorative waterproofing the adhesion will be lost, in this case remove the priming slurry and re-start the process. If the batch has stiffened up due to time, discard the batch and mix a fresh batch, never re-temper the batch by adding additional water to remedy the workability. Only mix sufficient product that can be applied by the team allocated.
Once the duracote decorative waterproofing has dried sufficiently level off with a dampened wood float, for a smooth tight finish use a damp steel float. Over-troweling with a steel float may cause burnishing and result in colour variance.
All existing joints are to be honoured and for large expansion joints may be inserted to minimize cracking, generally 3 m x 4 m panel sizes are recommended.
Curing
Once the duracote decorative waterproofing has dried sufficiently apply a fine mist spray to wet the surface for at least 24 hours to minimize crazing or surface dusting. Where windy and hotter climates are experienced curing becomes more critical.
Allow the application to dry before applying an appropriate clear sealer.
In colder conditions the product will cure slower and do not apply the product unless the surface and ambient temperature is greater than 5 oC or when rain is imminent.

Protection on completion
The duracote decorative waterproofing must be completely dry before applying polyurethane or epoxy sealers. See the respective data sheets for further information.
Do not drag heavy or sharp objects across the surface.
Bathroom, shower and kitchen walls and floors to be sealed with an appropriate sealer to prevent stains and scuffing.
Temperature and Relative Humidity
Do not apply duracote decorative waterproofing if the temperature is below 5°C.
Precautions
duracote decorative waterproofing must be kept out of reach of children, it may also be an irritant to eyes and skin.

Cleaning
Use water for cleaning before setting, hardened material will have to be mechanically removed.
Handling and Storage
duracote decorative waterproofing has a shelf life of 12 months if kept in a dry, cool store in the original, unopened packs. If stored at high temperatures and/or high humidity conditions, the shelf life may be reduced.
Health and Safety
Avoid inhalation of dust and contact with skin and eyes.
Suitable protective clothing, gloves, eye protection and respiratory protective equipment should be worn. The use of barrier creams provides additional skin protection. If contact with skin occurs, wash with water and soap. Splashes into eyes should be washed immediately with plenty of clean water and medical advice sought. See MSDS for additional information.
