Single pack, water based metal etch primer.

4-metal primer is a water based acrylic resin with acid etchant and corrosion inhibitive pigments.

Uses
  • As a corrosion inhibitor on clean iron and steel such as gates, fences, garden furniture, air-conditioning units and galvanised surfaces.
  • As a metal primer for water based waterproofing systems, acrylics and alkyd enamels.

Surface Preparation

Iron or steel surfaces should be free of loose rust.  Exposed metal should be thoroughly wire-brushed to reach as clean a state as possible. Galvanised steel should be degreased and completely free of white rust and preventative compounds.

Mixing

Stir well before use.

Coverage

Practical coverage for estimated purposes: 12 m2/L (Min two coats).

Application

4-metal primer may be applied by brush or roller straight from the tin. For spray application thinning of up to 10% with water may be necessary.

Drying time @ 25 ºC – Touch dry: 30 min, Hard dry: 2 hours.

Overcoating time @ 25 °C – Minimum 4 hours for water-based coating. Minimum 24 hours for solvent-based coating.

Cleaning

Tools, brushes and mixing equipment should be cleaned immediately after use and before material has set with abe® super brush cleaner followed by washing with soap and water.

Protection / Maintenance on Completion

4-metal primer may be overcoated with water-based acrylics, alkyd enamels, chlorinated rubber paints.

Packaging

500 ml, 1 L, 5 L and 25 L containers.

Handling & Storage

Shelf life of 12 months, but shorter if in extreme conditions. Keep tightly sealed in a dry cool place in the original packaging.
