a.b.e.®’s durajoint flexband system is particularly suitable for sealing of joints in potable water concrete reservoirs and other water-retaining structures.

a.b.e.®s durajoint flexband joint bandage system offers the solution to waterproofing expansion and construction joints, including critical joint areas with high or frequent movement, says Ivor Boddington, the company’s Concrete Repair and General Construction Products Manager.

a.b.e.® is part of the Chryso Southern Group.

The system includes durajoint flexband, durajoint adhesive, as well as durajoint HDPE strip, durajoint flexband solvent wipe, bond breaking tape and the appropriate sealant for various substrates.

Boddington says the durajoint flexband system is particularly suitable for sealing of joints in potable water concrete reservoirs and other water-retaining structures. “The system is the ideal solution for repairing failed joints, repairing and sealing structural cracks, and for the sealing of joints subject to chemical attack because it is resistant to a wide range of chemicals,” he explained.

In addition to waterproofing concrete reservoirs, the system can be used on a variety of substrates, including damp (not wet) substrates. It can also be used in contact with potable water. The bandage is supplied in 20 metre rolls and several widths.

The system includes durajoint flexband adhesive, a special epoxy adhesive for bonding the durajoint flexband thermoplastic elastomer membranes. The adhesive is a two-component, solvent-free epoxy resin bedding mortar/adhesive with low slump characteristics. “The adhesive can be applied in sections of up to 20mm thickness horizontally, and 10mm vertically in a single application without the need for formwork. Greater thickness can be achieved by the application of more layers. The adhesive can be hand mixed on a flat clean surface.”

Some of the advantages of the adhesive include early high strength which reduces down time, high peel strengths to the membrane, and resistance to chemicals. Priming is usually not required unless the concrete is very porous.

FDA-compliant, durajoint flexband adhesive is supplied in 2 litre kits. The solvent wipe, used to clean the surfaces to be sealed, is produced in 5 litre containers; and the system’s HDPE strips are 3mm thick, 50 or 75mm wide, and produced in 3 metre lengths. The strips are used to centrally straddle expansion joints when support below the flexband membrane is required.
