DESCRIPTION

super laykold is a rubberised bitumen emulsion, which is used together with abe® membrane to provide a liquid waterproofing system. super laykold is koi fish friendly.

USES

super laykold is recommended in various areas:

  • Flashings
  • Parapet walls
  • Flat roof waterproofing areas
  • Sealing joints, laps and roofing screws on corrugated roofs
  • May be used in areas of total water immersion

 

ADVANTAGES 

  • super laykold is an all-in-one system. There is no need for separate primers (apart from metal surfaces).
  • It has excellent adhesion and is tough, flexible and non-toxic.
  • Suitable for use in potable water conditions.
  • Ideal for use in koi ponds.

SURFACE PREPARATION 

All surface to be clean, dry, sound, free of all laitance, grease, oil, fungal growth, or loose and flaking particles.

BONDING/PRIMING 

All surfaces (except metal): 

Mix one part super laykold with one part clean water and prime the total area to be covered. As a guide 0,25L of the diluted primer will cover 1 m•. Allow to dry.

Metal surfaces only: 

New galvanised iron – prime with bitu.®prime solvent-based primer and allow to dry. Old galvanised iron and steel to be primed with solvent based metal etch primer.

MIXING

Stir well before use.

COVERAGE

2,1 l m² full system.

APPLICATION

First coat (all surfaces after priming):

Brush or roll on a thick coat (0,75 l /m2) and embed abe® membrane well into the wet coating. On flat surfaces, it is recommended to use a fluted aluminum roller for this purpose. Membrane overlaps should be a minimum of 100 mm on end laps and 75 mm on side laps.

Second coat:
When the first coat has dried sufficiently to take working traffic (2-3 hours), apply a second coat of super laykold (0,75 l /m²) to ensure the membrane is completely saturated, and allow to dry.

Third coat:

Apply a final coat of super laykold (0,6 l /m²) to give a smooth finish.

Note: If super laykold is used in a koi pond or dam, allow to dry for 14 days. Flush with clean water before filling.

CLEANING

Tools, brushes and mixing equipment should be cleaned immediately after use and before material has set with abe® super brush cleaner followed by washing with soap and water.

PROTECTION ON COMPLETION

Allow the system to dry for 7-10 days and then overcoat exposed areas with silvakote.

TEMPERATURE AND RELATIVE HUMIDITY

Do not apply if temperature is below 5°C.

MODEL SPECIFICATION

Rubberised bitumen emulsion waterproofing system.

The waterproofing/flashing system will be super laykold, a single-pack, elastic, rubberised bitumen compound applied in accordance with the recommendations of a.b.e.® Construction Chemicals, including abe® membrane, bituprime or 4 metal primer and a protective coating of silvakote where necessary.

PACKAGING

1 l, 5 l, 20 l and 200 l containers.

HANDLING & STORAGE

This product has a shelf life of 12 months if kept in a dry cool place in the original packaging. In more extreme conditions this period might be shortened.

HEALTH & SAFETY

super laykold is mildly caustic and should not be allowed contact with skin and eyes or ingested. The use of gloves and eye protection is advised. Splashes into eyes should be washed immediately with plenty of clean water and medical advice sought.

Cured super laykold is inert and harmless.
